Antennas & Hardware

The antenna beats the radio — coax, SWR, and getting your signal out.

What it is

This is the workshop. Antennas, feedline, radios, LoRa boards, and the endless, satisfying hunt for a lower SWR. Whether you’re picking your first handheld or tuning a rooftop Yagi, the gear talk happens here — across #antennas, #radios, and #lora-hardware.

// fundamentals

Three things worth knowing

Master these and you’re ahead of most.

#1

Height & antenna win

Most range gains come from a better antenna mounted higher — not a bigger, pricier radio. Spend on the antenna and the mast first.

#2

Mind your SWR

A bad match wastes power and can cook a transmitter. Measure it, tune it, respect it — a cheap SWR meter pays for itself.

#3

Coax has loss

Especially at UHF. Use quality cable, keep runs short, and pick the right connectors (PL-259, SMA, N) for the job.
